The
state of New York through the offices of Senator George Maziarz and Assemblywoman
Francine Del Monte contracted with OCG to analyze the tourism marketing
structure and function for the entire county. Two entities had responsibility
for marketing the county and there was concern that inefficiencies and
redundancies were limiting the impact of invested resources.
OCG conducted:
An in depth review of existing documents: including contracts, by-laws,
budgets, marketing plans, reports, policies and procedures, booking
policy, staffing ratios and other relevant documents;
Individual interviews with appropriate political and community leaders,
board chairs, representatives of the tourism industry, and others;
Focus group discussions with general public representatives;
Toured the destination product.
Following the data-gathering phase OCG created a report of findings and
a Blueprint that detailed recommendations regarding:
Organizational governance and structure
Accountability measures
Resource requirements
Role and scope of the marketing entity
Goals and objectives that maximize resources
The relationship between the marketing entity and other community
entities
The blueprint has been embraced and is in the process of full implementation.
The implementation phase is currently in process; OCG has now been retained
by the new entity to assist in the transition.
