OCG recognizes that the effectiveness of a board of directors is a critical success factor for any organization, especially for the not-for-profit model of most DMOs.

Over the past 19 years we have worked with more than 200 different boards. That experience has led to the development of some very specific tools for effectively managing the board and insuring its overall effectiveness.

We actually like working with boards…..although some people think we like pain.

Most recently Joe Lathrop contributed a chapter on board governance to the textbook published by IACVB entitled Fundamentals of Destination Management and Marketing.

The chapter includes samples of:

  • Job descriptions
  • Evaluation instruments
  • Code of conduct
  • Disclosure statements

What we've learned:

In our experience most boards want to do the right thing but are confused about their role and responsibilities.
